It may not look it from the outside photo, but extensive refurbishment over the years has pushed the Green Dragon well back into an extension that dwarfs the original area. At a guess, the Green Dragon must be a strong contender for Beveley’s largest pub: and that’s before you take into account the large open air area further back still.

The Green Dragon

These changes are obvious to even the casual visitor: but it would still be fair to say that the character of the original, front, area has echoes of a history that goes back as a pub until 1746 and as a building another century or so. It is said that it still has echoes, too, of the ghost of a young Danish soldier executed in what is now the Saturday Market in 1689.
