Beverley’s one “must visit” pub. OK, you’ll find those who say it’s never been the same since they installed a bar in the mid 70s (before then the pumps were on the wall and the beer served up on a big kitchen table): and others who miss the unforgettable experience of finding the wall in the back yard that passed for a gents’ loo until they refurbished the place at about the same time.

But don’t let these minor concessions to the 20th Century put you off. The coal fires, gas lighting, warren of small rooms, wildly worn stone and tile flooring and incredible collection of ancient furniture remain; together with some excellent beer and fantastic character and atmosphere. Yes: you guessed - we like it…
All together, the White Horse - or Nellies as it is more commonly known - remains a unique experience in pubgoing: and it certainly remains the best that Beverley has to offer.

Nellies “White Horse” is such a great old pub, love the many snuggs ie rooms to roam in. Publicans were very gracious to us yanks!

Great atmosphere and cheap beer. Very dark and still has the original gas lamps.
